Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
§ Participate as a member of the Contract Management Team in the overall running of the Contract division and achievement of its goals.
§ Challenge the status quo across the Contract division, ensuring that decisions are well founded, financially justified and provide a constructive counterbalance to strategic ideas.
§ Champion new ways of working in the Contract division in accordance with market and customer practices and support the Board and other senior managers in driving through change.
§ Reviewing contract legals and documents, flagging issues and exceptions to the business. Liaise with external lawyers and Finance Director to resolve contractual and commercial issues with customers.
§ Sharing contract knowledge and educating the team while offering direction and instruction across the business.
§ Review and improve current contract process and write procedures, then police these processes going forward.
§ Ensuring that the business understands and adheres to its contractual obligations and that the financial aspects and potential impact of all developers’ commercial contracts are clear to the business.
§ Create, maintain and monitor financial and contractual KPI’s.
§ Ensuring that the profitability of the Contracts business is delivered as expected, within the agreed business margin, or that non-conforming project margins are agreed and delivered against, with variances analysed and explained.
§ Work closely with the Contracts Sales Director and contract sales team in relation to tender submissions and pricing.
§ Review and sign off customer tenders, contracts and agreements.
§ Challenge overdue debt, contra charges and outstanding retention payments with customers.
§ Ensuring appropriate financial controls and procedures are put in place and adhered to throughout the division. Always act to defend the business margin and process.
§ Develop an analytical approach to decision making in the Contract division and create an environment of continuous improvement.
§ Liaise with design and tender teams to ensure data integrity ie one set of numbers.
§ Liaise with field operations on issues relating to variances, cost impacts.
§ Contribute and lead key projects relating to Contract Operations.
§ Any other duties that the business consider to be desirable to the role.
Skills, knowledge and experience:
§ Strong educational background
§ Advanced Microsoft skills especially Excel
§ Strong and proven commercial awareness
§ Proven experience of delivery in a customer facing role
§ Excellent numeracy skills
§ Demonstrable working knowledge and experience of all types of building and development contracts
§ Credible, with strong influencing skills
§ Analytical approach with attention to detail and rigorous approach
§ Highest standards of integrity and independence
§ Degree educated
§ QS qualification or other legal contract training
§ Accounting qualification
§ Ability to read and understand designs/plans
§ Knowledge of SAP
